Image by pshab For a few months now, I have been reducing my marketing presence on Facebook. Generally, I don’t enjoy the conversational tone, and I believe Facebook is losing market power. Another aspect is to create a safer place where I don’t have workplace colleagues and contacts reading my feed expecting the latest and greatest Geoff news (Woo. Hoo.). I’d rather have a closer family and friend experience there. This seems to have happened by happenstance, anyway. In fact, of my current consulting and speaking clients, only one head of marketing is a friend on Facebook. The linchpin was seeing organic unpaid engagement drop on blog posts.
A few weeks ago, I blogged about needing to make ideas more palatable. Well, this afternoon I have an opportunity to strut my stuff at TEDxPeachtree. I’ll be speaking about how we don’t need heroes, and that anyone can use influence to affect societal change (you can watch via livestream at 3:05 this afternoon). I have been preparing this speech for months now. With good reason… More than 5000 people are expected to watch the event in person and via livestream. LiveYourTalk Founder and Speaking Coach Jill Foster has been working with me to maximize this opportunity.
I’m personally thrilled to participate in two charitable efforts to help children this month because of the incredible impact my daughter Soleil has made in my life. It’s just amazing how love for a child changes you. This love eclipses anything you could possibly know beforehand. For example, I would do anything for Soleil. I would die if it meant she would live, and I’ve never felt that way about anything else. Cliche, but true. It’s just like that.
Image by DBduo Photography When you peel an onion, you find a new shiny layer. Then if you gently peel this second onion layer, you find a third one. Each layer yields a new fresh layer, different from its predecessor. The onion represents life, particularly for those who continue to challenge themselves to grow. Difficult situations present opportunities to dig deeper, peel that onion, and perhaps change and evolve to better meet the times.

True blue — loyalty in your views and causes — is an admirable quality. Blue means more culturally, too. It can mean feeling down.
