Boycotting the 2008 Olympics

I’ve decided to boycott the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The Chinese governments continuing human rights violations, the country’s horrific environmental policies, and the ongoing oppression in Tibet have made this event unacceptable to me.

  1. This is great. It is important to show solidarity with people in other countries being victimized by government repression and corporate misconduct.

  2. Hi Geoff. That’s a shame however i understand your position.

Their are not many countries around the world (yours and mine included) that can claim to be blameless with regard to how they treat people.

With regard to the money side of things have a read of a book titled “the new lord of the rings” if you ever get a chance.

Perhaps the Olympics should be scrapped?

  3. The U.S. is not above finger pointing for sure. In fact, we have become an abusive power, in my opinion. I hope Obama wins and can shake things up, but if he doesn’t, it’s time to seriously explore stronger options.

The Olmpics hold great hops. But the commercial involvement should be curbed, just like in the U.S., special interests rarely offer value.
